I’m running for Congress because I’m tired of seeing endless distractions while our country faces serious and very real problems that are being ignored.
Americans spend more on healthcare than any other industrialize country, without better outcomes. No place is that more evident than in maternal mortality. Providing better healthcare for women from contraception to post-partum care vastly improve health outcomes for women and child.
Utah has one of the largest gender wage gaps in the nation. Women earn $.70 for every $1.00 earned by men. The gap is even more pronounced for certain racial/ethnic groups. These disparities in wages persist despite Utah’s strong middle class. These wage gaps translate to lost income for families.
Studies show the link between poverty and education. Adults with no high school diploma are more likely to fall into poverty. Their children are are 2.4 times more likely to drop out of school. Today, there are an estimated 39 to 40 million people without a high school diploma. We must make investments in adult education a top priority.
The solvency of Social Security should not be an election year sport. Millions of senior citizens rely on income received from Social Security to sustain them in retirement. Steps must be taken to protect this insurance from the whim of the stock market. Likewise financial exploitation of the elderly by individuals or corporations must be punished.
ABOUT UTAH’S 4TH DISTRICT
Utah’s Fourth Congressional District (CD4), composed of diverse and vibrant communities across Salt Lake, Utah, Sanpete, and Juab counties, is a blend of rural and urban towns surrounded by spectacular mountains. Many of the district’s urban areas were rural as recently as 15 years ago, so preserving rural communities and their histories, taking care of farmers and ranchers, and water conservation are very important to many of us.
